Rice Dumplings in Chicken Gravy / Kozhi Pidi


Kozhi pidi is a complete meal suitable for breakfast or
dinner.  The rice dumplings cooked along
with chicken and coconut milk really yummy and delicious. It is better to have
less spicy. No any other side dish is needed along with it. Just take a spoon
and finish it.

Rice Dumplings in Chicken Gravy / Kozhi Pidi

  1. Chicken- ¼ kg

  2. Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp

  3. Pepper powder-1 tsp

  4. Salt-to taste

  5. Oil-1 tbsp

  6. Onion (very thinly sliced)-1large

  7. Ginger paste-1tsp

  8. Garlic paste-1tsp

  9. Turmeric powder- ½ tsp

  10. Coriander powder-1tsp

  11. Garam masala powder- ½ tsp

  12. Salt- to taste

  13. Thick coconut milk-1cup

  14. Coriander leaves-to garnish

For the rice dumplings:

  1. Rice flour- 1 cup

  2. Water-1 cup

  3. Salt-to taste

  4. Oil-1/2 tsp

  5. Coconut scraped-1tbsp

  6. Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp

  7. Shallots chopped thinly-3 tsp

Preparation of rice dumplings:

  • Boil water with salt and oil.

  • When it  boils; Mix it with rice flour, coconut, cumin seeds and shallots.

  • Allow to cool little and make a smooth dough.

  • Take small portions from the dough and make small dumplings with it; steam cook it for 5 minutes.

  • Allow to cool the steamed dumplings and keep aside.

For the chicken/kozhi pidi:
  • Cook the chicken (with salt, turmeric and little water) in pressure cooker for 3 whistles.

  • Remove the bone of chicken and make it small crunch pieces (same size of rice dumplings).

  • Keep it aside.

  • Heat oil in a pan; Add onion chopped and sauté well.

  • Add ginger and garlic paste.

  • Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, garam masala and salt as one by one and sauté well.

  • Add thick coconut milk and the chicken stock.

  • Boil it for few minutes (5-10) until it starts thicken to reach nice gravy consistency.

  • Then add minced chicken pieces and rice steamed rice dumplings. Cook for another 5 minutes.

  • Garnish on top with lots of coriander leaves.

  • Serve it hot and enjoy your meal…!!!
