Rava Idli / Semolina Idli

Rava Idli / Semolina idli is a popular Indian Breakfast
recipe. It is also eaten as a snack. It goes well with chutney, sambar or
pickle. Here is the simple and easy preparation of instant rava idli.


Ingredients:
  1. Semolina / Rava – 1 ½ cup

  2. Oil- 1 ½ tbsp

  3. Cashew nut- few

  4. Mustard seeds- ½ tsp

  5. Urad dal- ½ tsp

  6. Curry leaves chopped-1 tsp

  7. Onion finely chopped-1 small

  8. Ginger finely chopped-1 tsp

  9. Green chilly finely chopped- 1tsp

  10. Carrot finely chopped- 1 tbsp

  11. Curd /yogurt – ½ cup

  12. Baking powder- ½ tsp

  13. Coriander leaves finely chopped- 2 tbsp

  14. Salt – to taste

Preparation:
  • Heat oil in a pan; fry cashew nut splits until golden and
    take it out from the oil. Keep aside in a plate.

  • Add mustard to the oil; when it crackles add urad dal, curry
    leaves and ginger chopped.

  • Then add onion and sauté for a minute until transparent.

  • Add carrots and green chilly.

  • Add semolina in to it and roast it in medium flame for 2-3
    minutes until semolina nicely roasted but didn’t change its color.

  • Switch off the flame and add it in to a large bowl.

  • Add curd, coriander leaves, baking powder and salt in to it;
    mix well.

  • Add little water to form a thick dough (the batter must be
    very thick but not dry..almost in a thick curd consistency)

  • Grease the idli mold well with ghee or oil.

  • Place a split of cashew in each pits.

  • Add ladle of batter to each pits and steam cooks for about
    15 minutes until done.

  • Open the lid and remold after few minutes.

  • Serve warm with chutney or pickle.
