Puran Poli - Recipe Book

Puran poli is a popular Maharashtrian sweet stuffed traditional roti especially prepared on the occasion of  Holi. It can be served as a breakfast or as a snack also. The sweet lentil filling inside is very delicious and nutricious choice for all.
Ingredients:
  1. Wheat flour- 1 cup

  2. Sugar-1 tsp

  3. Salt-to taste

  4. Oil-1 tbsp

  5. Warm water

  • Combine wheat flour with oil, salt and sugar.

  • Add warm water little by little and make a smooth dough.

  • Cover it with a kitchen towel and keep aside.

For Filling:
  1. Chana dal-1 cup

  2. Jaggery Crushed- 1/2 cup

  3. Cardamom powder- 1/2 tsp

  4. Ghee- 1 tbsp 

  • Soak chana dal in water for over night.

  • Cook it with enough water and a pinch of salt until cooked well (mashed consistency) and all the water gets absorbed.

  • Add melted jaggery in to it and cook until thick.

  • Add ghee in to it and mix well continuously until it starts leaving from the sides of the pan

  • Add cardamom powder and switch off the flame.

  • Allow to cools down completely.

  • Make small number of balls out of the wheat dough.

  • Make same number of double sized balls out of the chana dal mix.

  • Flatten the wheat dough and put the dal ball in centre and cover the stuffing.

  • Roll it again to a large circle without breaking the stuffing

  • Cook it on a heat tawa by applying ghee on both side.



  • Serve warm with a cup of tea.
